Thirsk Community Primary School is situated in Hambleton Place alongside the Children’s Centre. Within the school the Nursery and Reception are housed in the Foundation Unit.

Morning Session for 15 hours funded places

Monday to Friday

9.00 am – 12.00 pm (gate will be opened at 8.50 am)

These places are reserved for children who become Reception within the same academic year as starting Nursery, and who start with us in September.

We strongly recommend that from the start children do all five sessions a week. However, we understand that for some children these sessions might have to be built up. It is a requirement that children starting Nursery in September attend all five morning sessions by October half term. It is a requirement that children starting Nursery in January attend all five morning sessions by February half term.

We are unable to offer a place for less than five sessions a week, or for a mixture of mornings and afternoons.

Afternoon Session for 15 hours funded places

Monday to Friday

12.00 pm – 3.00pm (gate will be closed at 3.10 pm)

These places are reserved for children who do four terms in Nursery, i.e. they do not start Reception within the same academic year as starting Nursery.

All day session for 30 hours funded places

Monday to Friday

9.00 am – 3.00pm

These places are reserved for children who become Reception within the same academic year of starting Nursery, and who start with us in September.

Lunch time

11. 30 am – 12. 00 pm

We require children who attend the morning session to have lunch with us. This is part of our teaching and learning time. Qualified Early Years staff work with the children focusing on healthy eating, health and well-being, self-care and independence, as well as personal and social skills. You can choose to send a packed lunch, or book and pay for a school dinner. Morning sessions and 30 hours places are reserved for those who will become Reception in the same academic year as starting Nursery. This approach, and our lunch time practice, ensures that our children are fully prepared to be independent at lunch by the time they enter Reception.

Please feel free to contact us. We have an open door policy in Nursery and everyone is very welcome to come and talk to us with questions, requests for information or to discuss any concerns you may have regarding your child.

We will always make time for you.
