Karate Competition September 2018

30th November -0001
Twins, Henry and Phoebe Greetham brought home medals from the Finnish Open in Helsinki. The months of training leading up to the competition paid off when both competed in team kata, Phoebe winning gold with the under 14 girls team and Henry winning silver in the under 12 category with the boys team, narrowly missing out to Portugal in the final. It was an amazing opportunity and a great experience to compete at an international level.

Henry and a Phoebe are members of the England Karate Federation Youth Squad kata team, a development program for young athletes on their way to the senior England squad. They train several times a week at the JS Karate Academy with Sensei James Scanlon and have been competing nationally for the past few years. Last weekend they competed at the British International Open where Phoebe won gold and Henry picked up a bronze.

Phoebe says, “Karate is a passion of mine that I really enjoy because you can make amazing new friends and go to many different places to compete”.

Henry says, “I love karate as it can help me defend myself and learn self discipline at the same time”.

As part of the England Youth Team they have the chance to make the dream of becoming International Karate Kata champions a reality and take a step closer towards possible future Olympic representation !
