Welcome to the summer term Year 1!

Our main science topic this term is ‘Living Things and their Habitats’. You will find your child's homework for the term in their school bag, if not please find it attached to this message. Homework in Y1 consists of:

  1. Reading. Please continue to listen to your child read every night as part of the whole school policy ‘Everybody, Every Night’. In Y1, this should take about 15 minutes.
  2. Spellings. Y1s will now move to having 8 weekly spellings to learn. Please encourage your child to practise them for a few minutes every night. There will be a little test at the end of each week. They need to learn their spelling for the weekly test, but ultimately, they need to demonstrate that they can spell these words in their everyday work in school.
  3. Maths ‘Learn Its’. A major part of success in maths is the ability to quickly recall key number facts which are known as ‘Learn Its’. In the summer term we will be working on adding doubles and counting confidently in 2s – forwards AND backwards.  Please support them with this at home – it can be done orally and does not need to be written down.

Individual reports from the spring term will be shared with you very shortly, with achievements acknowledged and targets set. The next Parents Evening will be a useful time to discuss these further with you. I look forward to meeting you then. If you would like a paper copy of the homework please send me a message on eschools.

Thank you for your continued support.
