A celebration of our School year

1st July 2022

A celebration of our school year!!

WOW what a year, certainly something we want to shout about!! Another unforgettable year for so many reasons!! After the challenging couple of years of lockdowns and disruption to school learning, we feel so lucky that this year we have managed to get back to some form of normality!!

We have come out stronger with new levels of versatility, creativity and ways of working which we can all carry forward with us.

We are extremely proud of all the pupils of Thirsk Community Primary School who have accomplished so much during this school year. Celebrating SATS results, team and individually sports awards including Platinum in School Games. As a school we were rated GOOD during our Ofsted inspection. Our school values of Perseverance, Enjoyment, Respect, Compassion and Excellence certainly helped us through… Staff and students!!

Here is a reminder of some of the amazing opportunities we have shared together this year….

The funfilled enrichment weeks we had in PE, RE, ECO and History , enjoying the excitement of school trips including Saltburn, Visit to the Mosque in Bradford, Peat Rigg outdoor adventure, Countryside day, Helmsley Castle, Thirsk Museum, Harlow Carr Gardens, Ripon Cathedral and Young voices.

Paint was thrown and water was squirted during our PTA Colour run not to mention all the other events and fundraising they have provided for our school, including the Halloween and Jubilee discos and summer and Christmas Fayres.

We have been in awe of some of the inspiring and special visitors we have been lucky to meet in school:  Jasmine Harrison (Atlantic Rower), Jonny Urszuly from Ninja Warrior, The Yorkshire Rotters, the History squad, Hindu education, Power Down Pete to name a few!

Mini Medics came to Provide our children with special first aid and life saving skills, North Yorkshire Police and fire Brigade have educated us to stay safe and uphold our values in the community

We extended invites to our local community to join some of our school events including invites to our School Fayres and a visit from some prominent members of the local council and MP’s to help plant trees in our jubilee wood, doing our bit for the community and the environment. We have fundraised for Help the Ukraine, comic relief, Children in Need, Royal British Legion and Bags to school.

We were overjoyed to be able to restart our after school clubs, Each term we offer something for everyone and a big thanks to our Sports Coach Mr Steel for being part of our staff team and his involvement in sport and Ms Trenholme for being our super sports organiser. This year we have seen gymnastic and Cheerleading clubs, Titans events, tag rugby and quicksticks competitions, cricket, Multi Sports, Eco Warrior, Science, Just Dance, Glee, Joe Wicks, netball, Rugby Tots and coding club.

Sports day was a success, kicking off our PE week followed by Fencing, yoga, it’s a knockout, wheelchair basketball, climbing wall, scooterbility and skateboarding. Kick boxing and rugby.

We cannot forget World Book Day, Non-uniform days, wear odd socks to school days for mental health awareness and some of the Special celebratory lunches cooked by our fab kitchen, who keep our children fuelled for the day with their hardwork in the kitchen!

Finally it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our Year 6 class, who have ended this year on a high with their SATs results. Their production of ‘Pantastic’ on a stage provided by the fantastic MB audio visual team on our school field and an emotional awards and leaving assembly. We will miss you!!

We also say goodbye to some members of our fantastic team of staff, we wish you all the luck with whatever your next adventure is and thank you for being a part of TCP!!

Above all we have had some fantastic experiences this year and have seen amazing learning, teamwork, positivity and enjoyment of school life. Thank you to all the staff and governors working hard daily and providing great support, Thank you to the parents/carers for showing great patience in the face of the challenging couple of years.

Last but not least thank you to each and every pupil of our school for making this a memorable year, We have had some great learning take place this year and we think you will agree it has been a year to remember for all the right reasons!!!
